ariakasBoy howdy has it ever been a long time since I've posted here. Well, long story short: I haven't used this blog in years, and in its archives are a lot cringy teen edgelord posts I didn't really want in the public domain anymore, so I locked it down a while back. But the trailer for the Nocturne Remaster got me feeling all nostalgic and I checked out r/Megaten and Youtube... only to find links to some of my posts? Nobody ever told me my translations were linked through the wiki, etc., or I would have happily kept them unlocked. Sorry about that, guys!
The two previously completed chapters have some minor edits from their original form (mostly corrected typos). The rest remains the same. I have no plans to do the omake/bonus track at present.

Ryougo: Another small fry's shown up? Thanks for coming all this way to die.
Orthrus: Come here, worm.
Pixie: Wait, Ryougo! Are you sure you want to talk to him like that? That guy's Beast Orthrus! He's the strongest demon in this entire area!
Ryougo: So what? He's not even a challenge for me now!
Orthrus: Fool! I'll deal with you myself.
Ryougo: Pixie, if you don't want to get hurt, get out of my way!
Ryougo: Is that how you plan to attack me? You're an idiot to try to fight me at your level!
Ryougo: This is how you fight!
Ryougo: Hahaha, observe! This is my power! I won't lose to anyone anymore! I am strong! I've become stronger than anyone!
Orthrus: ..F...fool...
Ryougo: Don't go down so easily, let me enjoy this a little! Hahahah!
Ryougo: Damn, he was all talk after all? How unsatisfying.
Pixie: You're going overboard, Ryougo! Huh? There's something behind Orthrus. It looks like a little treasure chest... This is... a magatama!
Ryougo: Hand it over!
Pixie: Wai- hey!
Ryougo: This is a pretty good take for offing a two-bit demon.
Orthrus: That... you...
Pixie: Orthrus? He's still alive?!
Ryougo: Just won't stay down...
Pixie: Ryougo, you're going to finish him off? Isn't that enough? You've already won the battle!
Ryougo: There's no use for the weak in this world. So I'll take care of him here.
Orthrus: You... what do you intend to become with that power?! I-imposs...ible...!
Pixie: You really did it...
Ryougo: What will I become with this power?
Voice: Ryougo, what did you want to become?
Ryougo: I... what on earth did I want to become?
Classmate A: Geez, you're an annoying bastard!
Classmate B: It pisses me off just lookin' at him!
Ryougo: Before Tokyo took the form it has now, and before I myself attained this power, I was the kind of ordinary high school student you could find anywhere. I was a little poor at making friends, but that was only because I didn't want anybody to get hurt for my sake. I didn't have anyone you'd call a close friend, but I thought that was alright with me. Even so...
Classmate A: Even if we let him make a run for the gate, he'd never get his slow ass down there and use it.
Classmate C: You think we're all finished here? Where'd you get that idea?
Ryougo: I-I'm sorry. Next time I'll be more careful.
Ryougo: Even if I didn't resist those two would find something to get pissed off at, and start beating me up. Damn it! If only I had power, if only just enough to stand up to them...
Classmate A: What's the matter Ryougo? You can't just sit there forever. You're makin' it look like we're picking on ya!
Classmate C: Are we picking on you, Ryougo?
Chiaki: Cut it out, you three. Don't you think it's shameful to gang up on him like this?
Ryougo: Chi.. Chiaki...
Classmate A: What's the matter, Chiaki? We're not doing nothing.
Isamu: Liar! Then why are your footprints all over his clothes?
Classmate A: I-Isamu! You wanna start somethin'?
Naoki: Knock it off! You guys are pathetic.
Ryougo: The same old pattern as always. I couldn't do anything by myself, and my classmates would step in to help me. Especially those three - Naoki, Isamu, and Chiaki. But I...
Classmate B: Whatcha' callin' pathetic, Naoki? An' just try and come over here and say it.
Naoki: I said picking on the weak is pathetic.
Ryougo: Picking on the weak... That's right. The ones who saved me thought of me as weak.
Yuko: What are you all doing over there?
Classmate A: Oh shit!
Ryougo: Miss Yuko...
Yuko: You couldn't be fighting, could you? I always tell you that you can't resort to violence-
Isamu: Ah, Miss Yuko! That's not it! We're having a conversation! Even if we did get a bit carried away.
Yuko: Is that true, Chiaki?
Chiaki: Yes. We really weren't fighting.
Yuko: I see. I'll trust you. But if any of you should have a problem, don't try to resolve it by yourselves - you can ask me for advice anytime. Okay?
Isamu: Really, Miss Yuko? The truth is that there are so many things bothering me!-
Chiaki: He's in an awfully good mood despite them.
Isamu: -Next time, I'd like to have a nice long chat with you about...
Yuko: Isamu, I was being serious. Well, I'm off then.
Classmate A: Damn, this is boring. We're outta here too.
Classmate B: Good thing you've got a lotta' friends, Ryougo.
Ryougo: T-thanks, everyone.
Naoki: Hey, Ryougo. If you don't do something, those guys are just gonna' keep messing with you.
Isamu: No kidding. You're a man too, show some balls.
Ryougo: Uh.... yeah. But I don't like to fight...
Naoki: We're not telling you to fight. There's more to standing up for yourself than that. But you, you don't even speak up when they knock you around, do you? How do you live like that?
Ryougo: Even if I spoke up, I still couldn't do anything.
Isamu: Guys who seem like they couldn't protect someone when it came down to it'll never get a girlfriend. Right, Chiaki?
Chiaki: I suppose so. Maybe you're right. But aren't you two really just telling him to fight those guys?
Isamu: No way! I'm telling him that with tough chicks these days, he doesn't have chance if he doesn't grow a pair!
Naoki: Yeah, that's right. We're telling him that he's gotta' make his own destiny.
Chiaki: Sure, sure. But you know, Ryougo might be just fine at fighting - it's just that he's kind to other people. Right, Ryougo?
Ryougo: I..uh...
Ryougo: You can't live without power. You have to make your own fate. I understood what Isamu and Naoki had to say all too well. But at the time, I thought these things would have been impossible for me. Back then, the only thing I cared about, the only thing that cheered me up despite my helplessness, was Chiaki's kind smile.
Ryougo: What did I want to become? I... wanted power, wanted to be stronger. And I obtained that power. But, for what purpose?
Voice: Ryougo...
Ryougo: Again someone's voice is calling me. Where in the world is this place?
Voice: Ryougo...
Ryougo: That voice is... Chiaki?!
Chiaki: Ryougo. What do you want to do with this world?
Ryougo: This... world?
Chiaki: Come on, tell me. What do you want to do with this world?
Ryougo: Chiaki... Chiaki... Where are you going? Wait! I... you..! Chiaki! Please say something! You're leaving me! Chiaki!!!
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne: Episode 2 - Misdirection
Ryougo: Chiaki!
Pixie: What's the matter, Ryougo? You looked like you were in a lot of pain...
Ryougo: Just a dream?
Pixie: A "dream"? Ah, so humans still dream after they become demons! So, what kind of dream was it?
Pixie: Wait-! Why are you ignoring me?!
Ryougo: That was definitely Chiaki. But she was completely different from the Chiaki I know. Her face was an expressionless mask. And those words: "what do you want to do with this world" and so on... Chiaki. Where are you now? Could she still be alive, somewhere in this utterly transformed Tokyo? No, she must be. And so I'll fight! Until the day I meet with you again... with this power...!
Ryougo: Back then, I found couldn't do anything by myself after all. It was only because I hung out with Isamu and Naoki, and Chiaki, that the usual three started picking on me less.
Isamu: You so should have seen her! She was seriously cute, the chick who took the same train as me this morning!
Chiaki: So you're always telling me. I wonder who you could be comparing her to?
Isamu: There are different levels of cute, you see--
Ryougo: Even though I'd say I hung out with Chiaki's group, it wasn't to get particularly close to her. I'd sit a little ways apart from them and just listen to them talk. And sometimes, I'd secretly gaze at her face in profile.
Isamu: Those are the eyes of a girl in love.
Naoki: Hey, guys. Listen up for a sec'.
Isamu: Huh? Whassa'matter, Naoki?
Naoki: So yesterday and today, Miss Yuko's missed work, right?
Chiaki: Hmm, I heard she'd suddenly come down with something.
Naoki: Well, I just heard this now in the staff room, but it seems like Miss Yuko's been hospitalized.
Chiaki: What?
Isamu: Se-seriously?!
Ryougo: When I think back on it, that seemingly trivial conversation in class about Miss Yuko's hospitalization was how everything began.
Isamu: Hey Naoki. Which hospital's she at?
Naoki: I think they said it was Shinjuku Medical Center.
Chiaki: Shinjuku Medical Center... I've heard the name before. As I recall it was a fairly sizable facility. It's on the east side of Shinjuku.
Isamu: Alright, it's a date! Let's go pay her a visit!
Chiaki: A visit? Yes, let's.
Naoki: Oh yeah? Tomorrow's a day off, too. Nice timing.
Isamu: Hey Ryougo! You coming with us?
Ryougo: Uhh-
Chiaki: That's right! You'll come with us too, Ryougo.
Ryougo: Well, yeah, I-
Chiaki: Oh, Naoki, where should we meet up? Where's convenient for you?
Isamu: Well, Studio Alta's good for me.
Chiaki: Isamu. I was asking Naoki.
Isamu: What's with that. Ohhhh, maybe you guys have that kind of relationship? Since when? That mean you're gonna go out?
Naoki: What're you trying to say, Isamu? Huh-- Ryougo!
Isamu: Hey, Ryougo! I said wait! Why'd you up and run off like that without saying a word...?
Ryougo: No... real reaon...
Isamu: Hey, look, just what do you wanna do?
Ryougo: Want to do?
Isamu: You hang out with us, but it's not like you ever say anything, and sometimes you just stare off at Chiaki's face, don't you?
Ryougo: I--no I don't--!
Isamu: You like her, don't you. I might be sticking my nose where it's not wanted, but if you don't make a move, nothing's gonna happen. I know what I said before, but that doesn't mean Chiaki and Naoki are going out. But I can't make any promises they won't someday. It's possible they'll suddenly get close.
Isamu: Eh, Miss Yuko's my one and only, so it's got nothin' to do with me, but those two are together all the time, so if you want to start something, you'd better be more forward about it or...
Isamu: H-hey, Ryougo! Hopeless case, that guy.
Ryougo: No way, no way! There's no way I could get closer to Chiaki than Naoki! He's part of their group, and he stepped in and saved me without so much as a word of complaint! Naoki's strong - way stronger than me!
Ryougo: This thought was swirling around in my heart: there was no way Chiaki could ever notice me.
Ryougo: Before I knew it I'd fled the school, and just when I started to feel I should face up to the truth and go back, I happened upon a bookstore and went inside. On the shelf near the entrance was a magazine about magic and fortune-telling. The caption read: "Make your crush fall head over heels for you with black love magic". It looked like it was for girls. But back then I thought "if only it could happen...", so I picked it up.
Hijiri: Hey, you.
Ryougo: Huh?
Hijiri: With that kinda' black magic, reading a book won't cut it.
Ryougo: Suddenly I heard a voice behind me. Upon turning around, I saw a tall, suspicious-looking man with long hair and a goatee.
Hijiri: Say, look here. Black magic, curses, predictions of the end times... Lately the number of magazines dealing with this stuff has mysteriously increased. Eh, probably because they're all fake.
Ryougo: Ah... speaking of which...
Hijiri: Well, they might be bogus, but there's no doubt humankind wants to harness the powers of darkness.
Ryougo: Harness the... darkness...?
Hijiri: Might be better to call it 'chaos', but when it all comes down to it, we're all tired of being tied down by the system and the rules. Aren't you the same? Here, use this.
Ryougo: All of a sudden, the man pressed a magazine into my hands. "Ayakashi Monthly". It looked like an occult magazine, but I'd never seen it before.
Hijiri: That one's not on sale yet, but it'll probably help you out more than those bogus magazines. Well, give it a read if you've got the time.
Ryougo: So I began flipping through the "Ayakashi" magazine the man gave me.
Ryougo: "The Gaia Cult and The Scriptures of Miroku"?
Ryougo: In the first special section was an article on a cult religious organization called "Gaia". According to it, said religion believed in a set of predictions called the "Scriptures of Miroku", and worked to bring about the transformation of this world into chaos.
Ryougo: "The secret key of the Gaia cult is rumoured to be located in their base of operations... a hospital?"
Ryougo: The word "hospital" caught my eye, and I scanned over the page again.
Ryougo: "Located in eastern Shinjuku, said hospital appears to be a large clinic with expansive facilities on the surface, but beneath it all has a connection to the Gaia cult." Could it--could it be--?!
Ryougo: A rumour I'd heard before sprang to mind: that in a hospital somewhere in eastern Shinjuku, human experiments were taking place.
Ryougo: If this, if this is the same Shinjuku Medical Center where Miss Yuko was hostpitalized, then--!
Ryougo: I was overcome by an ill premonition: no way - Chiaki was headed to Shinjuku Medical Center! And there, unimaginable, unbelievable things could happen to her. Those worries grew overwhelming in my heart.
Ryougo: Chiaki!
Ryougo: Here again?
Ryougo: Where is this place?
Ryougo: Am I dreaming?
Voice: Ryougo. Hey, Ryougo!
Ryougo: This voice... is familiar too... calling for me...
Voice: Hey, Ryougo! Whatcha doing?
Ryougo: Isamu?
Voice: Nothing but waiting, as always?
Ryougo: No, you're wrong! I obtained power!
Voice: Power, huh. So, whatcha gonna do with that power? What do you wanna use it for, Ryougo?
Ryougo: With this power... I... I...!
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne - Episode 3: Synchronicity
Eligor: You lack the power to defeat me! Begone!
Pixie: Ahhh! Ryougo!
Ryougo: Bearing the full brunt of Eligor's attacks is leaving me hamstrung. The least you could do is get in front of me!
Eligor: Still you weaklings resist?!
Ryougo: Feel free to die!
Pixie: That was so cruel, Ryougo. Using an ally like me as a shield.
Ryougo: Shut up!
Ryougo: I need more power - overwhelming power. I'll do anything I need to to get it!
Pixie: Oh no...
Ryougo: Let's go. There's nothing left here. I'll seek out stronger demons. Powerful demons, fit to be my sacrifices.
Pixie: Ryougo...
Ryougo. Power - I need more power. Then with that power, I'll...!
Voice: What do you want to do, Ryougo?
Ryougo: What I want... that's right, there's only one thing I want.
Ryougo: The next day I set out for Shinjuku Hygienic Hospital. I was worried about Chiaki and the rest of them who'd gone there to pay Miss Yuko a visit - no, at that time Chiaki was the only one on my mind.
Ryougo: 'Shinjuku Hygienic Hospital'... this is it! Chiaki must've already gone inside!
Ryougo: Huh?
Ryougo: When I entered the hospital, there were no signs of anyone around - it was still and silent as the grave.
Ryougo: What's that?
Ryougo: That's when it happened. The disaster that transformed Tokyo in an instant.
Ryougo: What happened?! An earthquake?
Ryougo: I witnessed an unbelievable scene through the large lobby window: buildings destroyed in the blink of an eye. Tokyo - no, the world - began to take on a strange appearance. And then... things I didn't think could exist in this world - demons - suddenly appeared. I fled for my life. Running mindlessly around inside the hospital.
Ryougo: There's monsters here too?!
Ryougo: Stay away!!!
Ryougo: I somehow managed to shake off the demons, and escaped to a corridor that connected the wards of the hospital. However... there were no signs of life there either.
Ryougo: Hello? Is there anyone down here? Anyone?! Damnit, what the hell is happening?! Somebody, please, tell me!!!
Ryougo: That's when, in the darkness deep within the corridor, two shadows sprang forth as if from nowhere, and drew closer to me.
Ryougo: Who's there?!
Ryougo: It was an old woman and a blond child. They were for some reason dressed as if they were going to a funeral, expressionless as old dolls.
Old Woman: That's an ordinary human, little master. It must've survived because it happened upon this hospital. Pay it no mind.
Ryougo: What?
Ryougo: In spite of the horrific events that had just occurred, the old woman and child were perfectly calm, discussing things I didn't understand. The blond child whispered something in the old woman's ear that I couldn't hear.
Old Woman: Hm? What's that, little master? ...Yes... I see...
Ryougo: They ignored me standing right in front of them and continued to speak in hushed tones. This angered me, so I strode forward before I could think better of it, voice raised.
Ryougo: Just what are you two talking about?! Something terrible is happening outside!
Old Woman: It seems my little master has decided to aid a human like you, as well.
Ryougo: Aid me? What do you mean by that?
Old Woman: Within this world all possibilities are in flux... My little master has said that an existence like yours could also prove to be interesting.
Ryougo: What? What are you two up to?! Tell me, please! What happened to Tokyo?!
Ryougo: As I said so, the blond child looked at me, then whispered something else into the old woman's ear.
Old Woman: My young master says this: 'Should you wish to know the answer, you must survive this world.'
Ryougo: Survive... this world...?
Old Woman: Such is my young master's great benevolence - you must receive it gratefully.
Ryougo: All of a sudden my body began to move as if something were pressing down on it, and I doubled over in front of the two of them.
Old Woman: You mustn't move. The pain will last but a moment.
Ryougo: In the next instant, I felt heat as if my throat were burning. Something intense shot through my whole body, and I uttered a soundless scream as my consciousness slipped away. Then, at the end, I heard the child's voice.
Child: With this you'll become a demon too.
Ryougo: A... demon...?
Ryougo: When I came to, I was standing alone in a hallway that overlooked the hospital courtyard.
Ryougo: A demon...
Ryougo: That word alone echoed inside my head.
Classmate A: What the hell happened?!
Classmate C: Shit, there are monsters everywhere! A-another monster-- Ryougo?!
Ryougo: The three kids who had bullied me at school approached me. It seemed as if the demons were hounding them too.
Classmate B: What, seriously, Ryougo? Startling us like that.
Classmate C: Never mind that, what in the world happened?
Classmate A: We took refuge in this hospital but freaky monsters keeping popping up everywhere!
Classmate B: Huh - why do you look like that, Ryougo?
Ryougo: Wha-?
Ryougo: As I began to speak I noticed for the first time that my body had been completely transformed.
Classmate B: I said why are you strolling around like that, freak?
Classmate A: Are you out of your mind?
Ryougo: The moment I heard their voices, malicious as always, a power welled up inside of me that I could not suppress.
Classmate A: What are you looking at us like that, Ryougo?
Ryougo: Anger. Hatred. The feelings inside of me that I always held back turned into a raging power that gathered within my body, and pierced through it like a blade.
Ryougo: Raahhh! Bastards!
Ryougo: The three of them were reduced to mere scraps of meat scattered about me in an instant.
Ryougo: This power... did I do this? Is this my power?
Ryougo: I did not feel even a little guilt over killing the three of them. All I felt was surprise at the power I'd gained, and an indescribable sense of pride.
Ryougo: This is my power! My power! I see - I've become a demon! I have the power of a demon!!!
Ryougo: You call yourself an oni, and this is all you've got?
Oni: He...lp...
Ryougo: What would a demon as weak as you accomplish if I let you live? You'd be better off dying here and becoming part of my power.
Oni: Wait! I could become your ally! Or you could take my macca - or whatever else I've picked up - please!
Ryougo: Allies? Macca? Life Stones? I have no interest in things like that.
Oni: Bastard... What do you want? What are you fighting for?
Ryougo: What do I want? There is only one thing that I want.
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne: Final Chapter - Reincarnation
Demon: It's Ryougo! Ryougo's coming!
Demon: Run! Run away! Ah!
Ryougo: They all run and hide from me. Before I knew it, my old ally Pixie had dissappeared, too. After that, the only demons who sought me out were cowards who to wanted to cling to my power to try to survive. But in the end they were all terrified of my strength, and soon fled. Oh well - do as you like. I don't need allies as I am now.
Demon: Run away! Ryougo's coming!
Demon: If he comes any closer he'll kill us!
Ryougo: Come to think of it, how long have I been wandering? I've sent countless demons back to the abyss. I've gained an unbelievable amount of power. Even so, I don't feel fulfilled. Just what is it I'm seeking?
Ryougo: What is it I'm seeking? I knew what that was from the beginning. I--
Ryougo: I sense someone. This presence - it's nothing like the pathetic demons I've fought up until now. This power is so much greater! Where is it? Who is it? Stop hiding - get out here where I can see you! Are you afraid of me? Afraid of my power?!
Ryougo: I sense something - I know I do. Inside these ruins. These ruins... I've seen these somewhere before. That's right! This was the school I attended.
Ryougo: That presence that's felt like it's been piercing through me for while now - whoever it is that's emitting it is somewhere inside.
Ryougo: Here!
Ryougo: There's no one here.
Ryougo: This is our classroom.
Isamu: Hey, Ryougo!
Naoki: Ryougo.
Ryougo: Our classroom - what a terrible state. Every trace of how it used to be back then has vanished. Everything has changed.
Classmate B: Not too quick, are you, Ryougo.
Classmate C: God you're useless.
Ryougo: I didn't have a single good memory attached to this place. But still, deep inside my heart, there was one thing--
Chiaki: It's just that he's kind to other people. Right, Ryougo?
Ryougo: Huh?! Something moved in there!
Ryougo: Show yourself! Who are you?!
Ryougo: A... mirror? I see... what I saw back there was my own reflection in a mirror. That's right: I'm the one who's changed the most. After the Conception, I became a demon; my body and heart - everything about me - changed.
Chiaki: Ryougo.
Ryougo: Ch-Chiaki?!
Chiaki: Ryougo.
Ryougo: Chiaki! I knew you'd survived! Thank god -nothing about you has changed at all.
Chiaki: You've changed a lot, though.
Ryougo: Y-yeah. I have. But I've gained power! I'm totally different from how I was back then! I've become stronger!
Chiaki: Oh? What do you want to make of the world with that power?
Ryougo: The world?
Chiaki: The Vortex World, since you've become a demon. You survived in this world that exists for the sole purpose of creating a new world. What did you discover here? What is your Reason?
Ryougo: Reason...?
Chiaki: That's right. Providence for the creation of a new world.
Ryougo: A new world...? Providence? All I wanted was to protect you with this power - protect you with my own hands, Chiaki!
Chiaki: I see.
Ryougo: Where are you going, Chiaki? Why are you leaving me, Chiaki? Why?! Chiaki, wait! I've always--
Ryougo: What the hell are you doing?! Why did Chiaki choose you?
Demon: O, one without Reason. Thou lackest the true power to create a new world. Thy wicked power is driven by lust alone.
Ryougo: What are you talking about? What are you saying?
Demon: Those that lack the Will of Creation do not understand even this? In that case, return to the darkness of chaos. Become a soul, and witness the world's creation!
Ryougo: Chiaki... Why?
Chiaki: You are not necessary for the world I desire.
Ryougo: The world... you... desire?
Chiaki: I wish for a world composed only of the chosen, the superior. You are unfit for a refined world in which true harmony has been achieved. So...
Ryougo: Ch-Chiaki... Chiaki...
Chiaki: Farewell, Ryougo.
Ryougo: Chiaki... Chiaki... Chiakiiii!!!
Ryougo: Chiaki. Chiaki.
Voice: Ryougo.
Ryougo: Who's calling me? Is this another dream? If it is, please let me wake up soon.
Voice: Ryougo. No, this is not a dream. You are no longer...
Ryougo: I have to hurry. I have to hurry to where Chiaki is.
Voice: Ryougo - you don't realize that you're no longer living, that you're a soul, do you?
Ryougo: I-I obtained power. I became strong.
Voice: Just what did you want to become with that power, Ryougo?
Ryougo: With this power, I-I wanted to... Chiaki...
Voice: That's right.
Ryougo: Ah, Chiaki. Where are you? Chiaki?
Voice: I brought something like you into existence with my actions. Ryougo, this too is--
Ryougo: Chiaki. Chiaki...
Voice: This too is a sin I must bear.
Ryougo: Chiaki... with this power... all I wanted was to protect you.

Pixie: Wait, Ryougo! Are you sure you want to talk to him like that? That guy's Beast Orthrus! He's the strongest demon in this entire area!
Ryougo: So what? He's not even a challenge for me now!
Orthrus: Fool! I'll deal with you myself.
Ryougo: Pixie, if you don't want to get hurt, get out of my way!
Ryougo: Is that how you plan to attack me? You're an idiot to try to fight me at your level!
Ryougo: This is how you fight!

I was a little poor at making friends, but that was only because I didn't want anybody to get hurt for my sake. I didn't have anyone you'd call a close friend, but I thought that was alright with me. Classmate A: Even if we let him make a run for the gate, he'd never get his slow ass down there and use it.
Classmate C: You think we're all finished here? Where'd you get that idea?
Ryougo: I-I'm sorry. Next time I'll be more careful.

Ryougo: Picking on the weak... That's right. The ones who saved me thought of me as weak.

Chiaki: Yes. We really weren't fighting.
Yuko: I see. I'll trust you. But if any of you should have a problem, don't try to resolve it by yourselves - you can ask me for advice anytime. Okay?
Isamu: Really, Miss Yuko? The truth is that there are so many things bothering me!-
Chiaki: He's in an awfully good mood despite them.

Naoki: We're not telling you to fight. There's more to standing up for yourself than that. But you, you don't even speak up when they knock you around, do you? How do you live like that?
Ryougo: Even if I spoke up, I still couldn't do anything.
Isamu: Guys who seem like they couldn't protect someone when it came down to it'll never get a girlfriend. Right, Chiaki?
Chiaki: I suppose so. Maybe you're right. But aren't you two really just telling him to fight those guys?
Isamu: No way! I'm telling him that with tough chicks these days, he doesn't have chance if he doesn't grow a pair!
Naoki: Yeah, that's right. We're telling him that he's gotta' make his own destiny.
Chiaki: Sure, sure. But you know, Ryougo might be just fine at fighting - it's just that he's kind to other people. Right, Ryougo?
Ryougo: I..uh...
Ryougo: You can't live without power. You have to make your own fate. I understood what Isamu and Naoki had to say all too well. But at the time, I thought these things would have been impossible for me. Back then, the only thing I cared about, the only thing that cheered me up despite my helplessness, was Chiaki's kind smile.
Ryougo: What did I want to become? I... wanted power, wanted to be stronger. And I obtained that power. But, for what purpose?
Voice: Ryougo...
Ryougo: Again someone's voice is calling me. Where in the world is this place?
Voice: Ryougo...
Ryougo: That voice is... Chiaki?!
Chiaki: Ryougo. What do you want to do with this world?
Ryougo: This... world?
Chiaki: Come on, tell me. What do you want to do with this world?
Ryougo: Chiaki... Chiaki... Where are you going? Wait! I... you..! Chiaki! Please say something! You're leaving me! Chiaki!!!

Ryougo: Chiaki!
Pixie: What's the matter, Ryougo? You looked like you were in a lot of pain...
Ryougo: Just a dream?
Pixie: A "dream"? Ah, so humans still dream after they become demons! So, what kind of dream was it?
Pixie: Wait-! Why are you ignoring me?!
Ryougo: That was definitely Chiaki. But she was completely different from the Chiaki I know. Her face was an expressionless mask. And those words: "what do you want to do with this world" and so on... Chiaki. Where are you now? Could she still be alive, somewhere in this utterly transformed Tokyo? No, she must be. And so I'll fight! Until the day I meet with you again... with this power...!
Ryougo: Back then, I found couldn't do anything by myself after all. It was only because I hung out with Isamu and Naoki, and Chiaki, that the usual three started picking on me less.
Isamu: You so should have seen her! She was seriously cute, the chick who took the same train as me this morning!
Chiaki: So you're always telling me. I wonder who you could be comparing her to?
Isamu: There are different levels of cute, you see--
Ryougo: Even though I'd say I hung out with Chiaki's group, it wasn't to get particularly close to her. I'd sit a little ways apart from them and just listen to them talk. And sometimes, I'd secretly gaze at her face in profile.
Isamu: Those are the eyes of a girl in love.
Naoki: Hey, guys. Listen up for a sec'.
Isamu: Huh? Whassa'matter, Naoki?
Naoki: So yesterday and today, Miss Yuko's missed work, right?
Chiaki: Hmm, I heard she'd suddenly come down with something.
Naoki: Well, I just heard this now in the staff room, but it seems like Miss Yuko's been hospitalized.
Chiaki: What?
Isamu: Se-seriously?!
Ryougo: When I think back on it, that seemingly trivial conversation in class about Miss Yuko's hospitalization was how everything began.
Isamu: Hey Naoki. Which hospital's she at?
Naoki: I think they said it was Shinjuku Medical Center.
Chiaki: Shinjuku Medical Center... I've heard the name before. As I recall it was a fairly sizable facility. It's on the east side of Shinjuku.
Isamu: Alright, it's a date! Let's go pay her a visit!
Chiaki: A visit? Yes, let's.
Naoki: Oh yeah? Tomorrow's a day off, too. Nice timing.
Isamu: Hey Ryougo! You coming with us?
Ryougo: Uhh-
Chiaki: That's right! You'll come with us too, Ryougo.
Ryougo: Well, yeah, I-
Chiaki: Oh, Naoki, where should we meet up? Where's convenient for you?
Isamu: Well, Studio Alta's good for me.
Chiaki: Isamu. I was asking Naoki.
Isamu: What's with that. Ohhhh, maybe you guys have that kind of relationship? Since when? That mean you're gonna go out?
Naoki: What're you trying to say, Isamu? Huh-- Ryougo!
Isamu: Hey, Ryougo! I said wait! Why'd you up and run off like that without saying a word...?
Ryougo: No... real reaon...
Isamu: Hey, look, just what do you wanna do?
Ryougo: Want to do?
Isamu: You hang out with us, but it's not like you ever say anything, and sometimes you just stare off at Chiaki's face, don't you?
Ryougo: I--no I don't--!
Isamu: You like her, don't you. I might be sticking my nose where it's not wanted, but if you don't make a move, nothing's gonna happen. I know what I said before, but that doesn't mean Chiaki and Naoki are going out. But I can't make any promises they won't someday. It's possible they'll suddenly get close.
Isamu: Eh, Miss Yuko's my one and only, so it's got nothin' to do with me, but those two are together all the time, so if you want to start something, you'd better be more forward about it or...
Isamu: H-hey, Ryougo! Hopeless case, that guy.
Ryougo: No way, no way! There's no way I could get closer to Chiaki than Naoki! He's part of their group, and he stepped in and saved me without so much as a word of complaint! Naoki's strong - way stronger than me!
Ryougo: This thought was swirling around in my heart: there was no way Chiaki could ever notice me.
Ryougo: Before I knew it I'd fled the school, and just when I started to feel I should face up to the truth and go back, I happened upon a bookstore and went inside. On the shelf near the entrance was a magazine about magic and fortune-telling. The caption read: "Make your crush fall head over heels for you with black love magic". It looked like it was for girls. But back then I thought "if only it could happen...", so I picked it up.
Hijiri: Hey, you.
Ryougo: Huh?
Hijiri: With that kinda' black magic, reading a book won't cut it.
Ryougo: Suddenly I heard a voice behind me. Upon turning around, I saw a tall, suspicious-looking man with long hair and a goatee.
Hijiri: Say, look here. Black magic, curses, predictions of the end times... Lately the number of magazines dealing with this stuff has mysteriously increased. Eh, probably because they're all fake.
Ryougo: Ah... speaking of which...
Hijiri: Well, they might be bogus, but there's no doubt humankind wants to harness the powers of darkness.
Ryougo: Harness the... darkness...?
Hijiri: Might be better to call it 'chaos', but when it all comes down to it, we're all tired of being tied down by the system and the rules. Aren't you the same? Here, use this.
Ryougo: All of a sudden, the man pressed a magazine into my hands. "Ayakashi Monthly". It looked like an occult magazine, but I'd never seen it before.
Hijiri: That one's not on sale yet, but it'll probably help you out more than those bogus magazines. Well, give it a read if you've got the time.
Ryougo: So I began flipping through the "Ayakashi" magazine the man gave me.
Ryougo: "The Gaia Cult and The Scriptures of Miroku"?
Ryougo: In the first special section was an article on a cult religious organization called "Gaia". According to it, said religion believed in a set of predictions called the "Scriptures of Miroku", and worked to bring about the transformation of this world into chaos.
Ryougo: "The secret key of the Gaia cult is rumoured to be located in their base of operations... a hospital?"
Ryougo: The word "hospital" caught my eye, and I scanned over the page again.
Ryougo: "Located in eastern Shinjuku, said hospital appears to be a large clinic with expansive facilities on the surface, but beneath it all has a connection to the Gaia cult." Could it--could it be--?!
Ryougo: A rumour I'd heard before sprang to mind: that in a hospital somewhere in eastern Shinjuku, human experiments were taking place.
Ryougo: If this, if this is the same Shinjuku Medical Center where Miss Yuko was hostpitalized, then--!
Ryougo: I was overcome by an ill premonition: no way - Chiaki was headed to Shinjuku Medical Center! And there, unimaginable, unbelievable things could happen to her. Those worries grew overwhelming in my heart.
Ryougo: Chiaki!
Ryougo: Here again?
Ryougo: Where is this place?
Ryougo: Am I dreaming?
Voice: Ryougo. Hey, Ryougo!
Ryougo: This voice... is familiar too... calling for me...
Voice: Hey, Ryougo! Whatcha doing?
Ryougo: Isamu?
Voice: Nothing but waiting, as always?
Ryougo: No, you're wrong! I obtained power!
Voice: Power, huh. So, whatcha gonna do with that power? What do you wanna use it for, Ryougo?
Ryougo: With this power... I... I...!

Eligor: You lack the power to defeat me! Begone!
Pixie: Ahhh! Ryougo!
Ryougo: Bearing the full brunt of Eligor's attacks is leaving me hamstrung. The least you could do is get in front of me!
Eligor: Still you weaklings resist?!
Ryougo: Feel free to die!
Pixie: That was so cruel, Ryougo. Using an ally like me as a shield.
Ryougo: Shut up!
Ryougo: I need more power - overwhelming power. I'll do anything I need to to get it!
Pixie: Oh no...
Ryougo: Let's go. There's nothing left here. I'll seek out stronger demons. Powerful demons, fit to be my sacrifices.
Pixie: Ryougo...
Ryougo. Power - I need more power. Then with that power, I'll...!
Voice: What do you want to do, Ryougo?
Ryougo: What I want... that's right, there's only one thing I want.
Ryougo: The next day I set out for Shinjuku Hygienic Hospital. I was worried about Chiaki and the rest of them who'd gone there to pay Miss Yuko a visit - no, at that time Chiaki was the only one on my mind.
Ryougo: 'Shinjuku Hygienic Hospital'... this is it! Chiaki must've already gone inside!
Ryougo: Huh?
Ryougo: When I entered the hospital, there were no signs of anyone around - it was still and silent as the grave.
Ryougo: What's that?
Ryougo: That's when it happened. The disaster that transformed Tokyo in an instant.
Ryougo: What happened?! An earthquake?
Ryougo: I witnessed an unbelievable scene through the large lobby window: buildings destroyed in the blink of an eye. Tokyo - no, the world - began to take on a strange appearance. And then... things I didn't think could exist in this world - demons - suddenly appeared. I fled for my life. Running mindlessly around inside the hospital.
Ryougo: There's monsters here too?!
Ryougo: Stay away!!!
Ryougo: I somehow managed to shake off the demons, and escaped to a corridor that connected the wards of the hospital. However... there were no signs of life there either.
Ryougo: Hello? Is there anyone down here? Anyone?! Damnit, what the hell is happening?! Somebody, please, tell me!!!
Ryougo: That's when, in the darkness deep within the corridor, two shadows sprang forth as if from nowhere, and drew closer to me.
Ryougo: Who's there?!
Ryougo: It was an old woman and a blond child. They were for some reason dressed as if they were going to a funeral, expressionless as old dolls.
Old Woman: That's an ordinary human, little master. It must've survived because it happened upon this hospital. Pay it no mind.
Ryougo: What?
Ryougo: In spite of the horrific events that had just occurred, the old woman and child were perfectly calm, discussing things I didn't understand. The blond child whispered something in the old woman's ear that I couldn't hear.
Old Woman: Hm? What's that, little master? ...Yes... I see...
Ryougo: They ignored me standing right in front of them and continued to speak in hushed tones. This angered me, so I strode forward before I could think better of it, voice raised.
Ryougo: Just what are you two talking about?! Something terrible is happening outside!
Old Woman: It seems my little master has decided to aid a human like you, as well.
Ryougo: Aid me? What do you mean by that?
Old Woman: Within this world all possibilities are in flux... My little master has said that an existence like yours could also prove to be interesting.
Ryougo: What? What are you two up to?! Tell me, please! What happened to Tokyo?!
Ryougo: As I said so, the blond child looked at me, then whispered something else into the old woman's ear.
Old Woman: My young master says this: 'Should you wish to know the answer, you must survive this world.'
Ryougo: Survive... this world...?
Old Woman: Such is my young master's great benevolence - you must receive it gratefully.
Ryougo: All of a sudden my body began to move as if something were pressing down on it, and I doubled over in front of the two of them.
Old Woman: You mustn't move. The pain will last but a moment.
Ryougo: In the next instant, I felt heat as if my throat were burning. Something intense shot through my whole body, and I uttered a soundless scream as my consciousness slipped away. Then, at the end, I heard the child's voice.
Child: With this you'll become a demon too.
Ryougo: A... demon...?
Ryougo: When I came to, I was standing alone in a hallway that overlooked the hospital courtyard.
Ryougo: A demon...
Ryougo: That word alone echoed inside my head.
Classmate A: What the hell happened?!
Classmate C: Shit, there are monsters everywhere! A-another monster-- Ryougo?!
Ryougo: The three kids who had bullied me at school approached me. It seemed as if the demons were hounding them too.
Classmate B: What, seriously, Ryougo? Startling us like that.
Classmate C: Never mind that, what in the world happened?
Classmate A: We took refuge in this hospital but freaky monsters keeping popping up everywhere!
Classmate B: Huh - why do you look like that, Ryougo?
Ryougo: Wha-?
Ryougo: As I began to speak I noticed for the first time that my body had been completely transformed.
Classmate B: I said why are you strolling around like that, freak?
Classmate A: Are you out of your mind?
Ryougo: The moment I heard their voices, malicious as always, a power welled up inside of me that I could not suppress.
Classmate A: What are you looking at us like that, Ryougo?
Ryougo: Anger. Hatred. The feelings inside of me that I always held back turned into a raging power that gathered within my body, and pierced through it like a blade.
Ryougo: Raahhh! Bastards!
Ryougo: The three of them were reduced to mere scraps of meat scattered about me in an instant.
Ryougo: This power... did I do this? Is this my power?
Ryougo: I did not feel even a little guilt over killing the three of them. All I felt was surprise at the power I'd gained, and an indescribable sense of pride.
Ryougo: This is my power! My power! I see - I've become a demon! I have the power of a demon!!!
Ryougo: You call yourself an oni, and this is all you've got?
Oni: He...lp...
Ryougo: What would a demon as weak as you accomplish if I let you live? You'd be better off dying here and becoming part of my power.
Oni: Wait! I could become your ally! Or you could take my macca - or whatever else I've picked up - please!
Ryougo: Allies? Macca? Life Stones? I have no interest in things like that.
Oni: Bastard... What do you want? What are you fighting for?
Ryougo: What do I want? There is only one thing that I want.
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne: Final Chapter - Reincarnation
Demon: It's Ryougo! Ryougo's coming!
Demon: Run! Run away! Ah!
Ryougo: They all run and hide from me. Before I knew it, my old ally Pixie had dissappeared, too. After that, the only demons who sought me out were cowards who to wanted to cling to my power to try to survive. But in the end they were all terrified of my strength, and soon fled. Oh well - do as you like. I don't need allies as I am now.
Demon: Run away! Ryougo's coming!
Demon: If he comes any closer he'll kill us!
Ryougo: Come to think of it, how long have I been wandering? I've sent countless demons back to the abyss. I've gained an unbelievable amount of power. Even so, I don't feel fulfilled. Just what is it I'm seeking?
Ryougo: What is it I'm seeking? I knew what that was from the beginning. I--
Ryougo: I sense someone. This presence - it's nothing like the pathetic demons I've fought up until now. This power is so much greater! Where is it? Who is it? Stop hiding - get out here where I can see you! Are you afraid of me? Afraid of my power?!
Ryougo: I sense something - I know I do. Inside these ruins. These ruins... I've seen these somewhere before. That's right! This was the school I attended.
Ryougo: That presence that's felt like it's been piercing through me for while now - whoever it is that's emitting it is somewhere inside.
Ryougo: Here!
Ryougo: There's no one here.
Ryougo: This is our classroom.
Isamu: Hey, Ryougo!
Naoki: Ryougo.
Ryougo: Our classroom - what a terrible state. Every trace of how it used to be back then has vanished. Everything has changed.
Classmate B: Not too quick, are you, Ryougo.
Classmate C: God you're useless.
Ryougo: I didn't have a single good memory attached to this place. But still, deep inside my heart, there was one thing--
Chiaki: It's just that he's kind to other people. Right, Ryougo?
Ryougo: Huh?! Something moved in there!
Ryougo: Show yourself! Who are you?!
Ryougo: A... mirror? I see... what I saw back there was my own reflection in a mirror. That's right: I'm the one who's changed the most. After the Conception, I became a demon; my body and heart - everything about me - changed.
Chiaki: Ryougo.
Ryougo: Ch-Chiaki?!
Chiaki: Ryougo.
Ryougo: Chiaki! I knew you'd survived! Thank god -nothing about you has changed at all.
Chiaki: You've changed a lot, though.
Ryougo: Y-yeah. I have. But I've gained power! I'm totally different from how I was back then! I've become stronger!
Chiaki: Oh? What do you want to make of the world with that power?
Ryougo: The world?
Chiaki: The Vortex World, since you've become a demon. You survived in this world that exists for the sole purpose of creating a new world. What did you discover here? What is your Reason?
Ryougo: Reason...?
Chiaki: That's right. Providence for the creation of a new world.
Ryougo: A new world...? Providence? All I wanted was to protect you with this power - protect you with my own hands, Chiaki!
Chiaki: I see.
Ryougo: Where are you going, Chiaki? Why are you leaving me, Chiaki? Why?! Chiaki, wait! I've always--
Ryougo: What the hell are you doing?! Why did Chiaki choose you?
Demon: O, one without Reason. Thou lackest the true power to create a new world. Thy wicked power is driven by lust alone.
Ryougo: What are you talking about? What are you saying?
Demon: Those that lack the Will of Creation do not understand even this? In that case, return to the darkness of chaos. Become a soul, and witness the world's creation!
Ryougo: Chiaki... Why?
Chiaki: You are not necessary for the world I desire.
Ryougo: The world... you... desire?
Chiaki: I wish for a world composed only of the chosen, the superior. You are unfit for a refined world in which true harmony has been achieved. So...
